The V Seven Enlightened series is widely regarded as one of the highest-end, "boutique" AR-15 platforms on the market, specifically known for its extreme weight reduction and use of advanced materials.
Overview
The standout feature of this rifle is its weight—or lack thereof.
V Seven is a pioneer in using aerospace-grade Lithium-Aluminum alloys for firearm components to achieve extreme weight reduction without sacrificing strength.
The Material: 2055 & 2099 Lithium-Aluminum
V Seven primarily uses two specific alloys sourced from Alcoa, which are significantly more advanced than the standard 6061 or 7075 aluminum found in most industries:
- 2099 Li-Al: Used primarily for their handguards (rails). It is roughly twice as strong as 6061 aluminum and about 9% lighter than 7075-T6. It offers incredible rigidity, which reduces "rail flex" when using bipods.
- 2055 Li-Al: Used for their upper and lower receivers and buffer tubes. This alloy is even stronger—approximately 33% stronger than 7075-T6—while remaining lighter and more corrosion-resistant.
Why Lithium?
Lithium is the lightest of all metals. When infused into aluminum, it creates an alloy that is:
- Lighter: Lower density than standard aluminum alloys.
- Stiffer: Higher modulus of elasticity (less "bend").
- Stronger: Higher tensile strength, allowing for thinner-walled parts that still exceed military specifications.
- Stable: Better performance under extreme heat or intense cold.
V Seven Enlightened Additional Features
Exceptional Build Quality: V Seven is known for tight tolerances. Owners report virtually no "slop" between the upper and lower receivers.
Accuracy: Despite the lightweight barrel profiles often used in these builds, users report sub-MOA performance with match-grade ammunition.
Recoil Impulse: Very lightweight rifles have less mass to soak up recoil. While the 5.56 NATO round is light, an ultra-light rifle will feel "snappier" or have more felt recoil than a standard 7-8 lb rifle unless it is perfectly tuned with an adjustable gas block.
Price: This is a premium "Gucci" rifle. The price gets you "state of the art."
Who is it for?
Backpackers/Hikers: If you need a rifle for long-distance travel where every ounce counts.
Competition Shooters: Those looking for the fastest possible transitions between targets.
State of the Art Collectors: Anyone who appreciates the "Formula 1" level of engineering in the AR-15 world.
