The Robinson Armament XCR is a highly modular, piston-driven rifle system praised for its superb ergonomics, exceptional reliability with various ammo types, and user-adjustable gas system.
Often described as the rifle the FN SCAR was meant to be. It is a modular, multi-caliber battle rifle that blends the best features of the AR-15 (ergonomics), AK-47 (reliability), and FAL (robustness).
Handling: The XCR-M shines in how it handles. Unlike the AR-10, it features a non-reciprocating left-side charging handle, allowing you to cycle the action without breaking your cheek weld.
Controls: The bolt release is located behind the magazine well (similar to the ACR), which many find faster than the traditional AR "paddle." All controls are fully ambidextrous.
The "AK" Guts: The bolt and carrier are massive and based on the AK design. This makes it incredibly reliable even when running dirty, as the reciprocating mass powers through grit and fouling.
Gas Adjustment: The tool-less 8-position gas dial is excellent for suppressed use. You can dial it down to "1" for a whisper-quiet host or up to "7" to cycle underpowered surplus ammo in freezing conditions.
Battle Rifle: While Robinson Armament markets it as a precision tool, it is fundamentally a battle rifle, not a benchrest gun. At over 9 lbs empty, it is noticeably heavier than a SCAR-17 or a lightweight AR-10.
SUMMARY
The XCR-M is for the shooter who wants a "one-and-done" .308 that is more durable than an AR and more ergonomic than a SCAR. It is overbuilt, smooth-shooting, and offers the easiest caliber conversion on the market (a single bolt swap and barrel change takes about 3 minutes).
